One of the joys of staying at Abbey Green Farm is how perfectly placed we are for exploring Shropshire. Tucked away in peaceful countryside in Whixall, near Whitchurch, our B&B, family campsite, and glamping pod are surrounded by farmland and open skies, yet some of the county’s most remarkable attractions are just a short drive away.

Whether you enjoy walking, history, gardens, or simply pottering through charming market towns, there’s something here for everyone.

Here are just a few of our favourite places to discover.

🌿 Whixall Moss National Nature Reserve

Right on our doorstep lies Whixall Moss, one of Britain’s largest lowland raised bogs and a rare landscape brimming with wildlife. Wooden boardwalks guide you through open peatland, where dragonflies dart across pools and curlew call overhead.

This National Nature Reserve is ideal for birdwatchers, walkers, and anyone who loves wild, unspoilt places. Best of all, it’s free to visit year-round.

🏰 Hawkstone Park Follies

For a day out with a sense of adventure, Hawkstone Park Follies is just 20 minutes from Abbey Green Farm. Created in the 18th century, this extraordinary landscape is filled with caves, cliffs, towers, and secret grottoes.

Paths wind through dramatic sandstone gullies, over rope bridges, and up to viewpoints with sweeping vistas. It’s a magical place for adults and children alike.
