A morning in Shrewsbury

Just a short and scenic drive from Abbey Green Farm in Shropshire, the historic market town of Shrewsbury is a favourite recommendation for guests looking for a relaxed day out.

We took this photograph in the square last week, when the light was soft and the town felt quietly alive. Timber-framed buildings lean together around the square, independent shops and cafés open their doors, and there’s an unhurried rhythm that makes Shrewsbury so enjoyable to explore.

One of the pleasures of Shrewsbury is how easy it is to wander. From the main square you can stroll down towards the River Severn, browse bookshops and delis, or pause for coffee and simply watch the world go by.

Its history is rich but never overwhelming, it’s a town that feels lived in, welcoming, and full of character.

For guests staying with us at Abbey Green Farm, Shrewsbury offers the perfect contrast to countryside life: a gentle morning out, followed by a peaceful return to the farm, perhaps with a few local treats tucked into a bag.

Staying with us? We’re always happy to suggest our favourite routes, cafés and quiet corners of Shrewsbury during your stay.
