At Abbey Green Farm, we love finding ways to blend comfort, craftsmanship and a touch of style. Each of our rooms has its own character, and we’re always adding small details that make a stay feel that bit more personal, from handmade touches to treasured pieces with a story to tell.

Earlier this year, a friend who has camped with us many times kindly offered us a large gold ornate mirror. It had once suited her home perfectly, but her style had since changed, and she wondered if we might give it a new life here at Abbey Green Farm.

I was delighted. It was such a generous gift, and I could immediately imagine it transformed with a softer, more French look to suit our rooms. I asked if she minded me renovating it, and she was more than happy for me to do so.

Out came the paint roller! I used Little Greene's 'Slaked Lime' as the base, a mellow, timeless shade that always works beautifully in our rooms, and layered over it softly to accentuate the mouldings, a Benjamin Moore mixed satin finish to add a subtle sheen and depth. The result is a soft, chalky texture that feels perfectly at home against the gentle tones of the Dexter Room.

Now, the mirror hangs proudly on the wall, catching the morning light and adding a quiet sense of elegance to the space. It’s one of those pieces that instantly draws your eye, yet feels as though it’s always been there.

We love giving new life to well-made things, especially when they carry a little story with them. This mirror, once loved by a friend and now a feature of our B&B, seems to fit our ethos perfectly, thoughtful details, gentle restoration, and a touch of handmade charm.
